Campaign Worlds/Keshyré/Creatures/Cazedaya
|
There are many species of dragons in Keshyré. Dragons are able themselves to reproduce with other dragons of the same species but dragons also come into being by another means. The origins of the cazedaya are lost in antiquity but it is commonly believed that they were created by the world dragon Cazélon prior to her corruption.
The cazedaya are of the race of dragons. The cazedaya are all descended from the original world dragon. Some have gained the corrupted cruelty of Cazélon while others have inherited the life affirming energy of Cazélon. Cazedaya nest will all be of the same alignment.
The cazedaya all start as an egg laid by cazedaya breeders. The eggs take about two years to mature. Upon birth a full grown cazedaya male of female cazedaya child emerges. There are usually thousands of cazedaya children in a nest. The cazedaya children are capable of fighting on their own as well as in groups if directed by the cazedaya protectors. The cazedaya child lives as such for about 20 to 30 years and if it survives will create an egg-like cocoon around itself.
Upon emerging from the chrysalis it will be transformed into a cazedaya breeder - small but having lost its tail and growing within a few months to full height. The cazedaya breeders' sole purpose is reproduction - the female lays eggs (one to two per day) and the male fertilizes them. There will be anywhere between 50 to 150 breeders in a nest.
After approximately ten years the cazedaya breeder will lose its gender attributes, gain muscle mass and grow a new tail. The cazedaya also grows in height to 6 or 7 feet. At this point the cazedaya has become a cazedaya warrior. The cazedaya warriors are the fighting caste of the nest and guardians of the breeders and children. There will be 100 to 500 in a nest depending on nest size. They answer to the cazedaya protectors.
In about 40 years if the cazedaya warrior survives it will lose its gender attributes and gain muscle mass. At this point the cazedaya has become a cazedaya protector. The cazedaya protectors are leaders of the warriors acting as healers and area directors for the nest. There will be 25 to 75 in a nest depending on nest size. They answer directly to the cazedaya chieftains and are able to communicate telepathically with each other. They can send thoughts to other races as well but cannot be understood due to the alien nature of their thoughts.
In about 30 years and there is room in the nest for another cazedaya chieftain the protector will undergo a final transformation growing in height by three to four feet and spouting wings, giving it the ability to fly. It will assume to the role of a chieftain. The cazedaya chieftains have no gender. Their goal at this point is to direct the nest and ultimately transform into a cazedaya dragon. The alignment of the nest and the life and behavior of the cazedaya chieftain dictates what sort of dragon it will become. There will always be 9 chieftains in a nest unless the nest is newly founded.
